Privacy Policy – Life in the UK Test Prep
Last updated: 7 October 2026
This privacy policy explains how Yasantha Hettiarachchi IT Consultancy Service ("we", "us"), a sole proprietorship owned by Yasantha Hettiarachchi and registered in Sri Lanka (registration number WP/GAM/KE/2024/00007), handles information in the Android app Life in the UK Test Prep (package name com.myday.litu), referred to below as "the app". We are the data controller for the information described here.
Summary
- You can use the app without creating an account. Your answers, progress and settings are stored on your device.
- If you choose to sign in with Google, your progress is backed up so you can restore it on another phone.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Pro subscribers see no ads.
- We use Google Firebase to keep the app working, to understand which features are used and to fix crashes.
- We do not sell personal information.
- You can delete your online data at any time from Settings › Delete my data.
Information stored on your device
The app saves your answers, review schedule, mock test results, study streaks, daily goal, test date, reminder time and display preferences on your device. This information stays on your device unless you sign in with Google (see "Backup" below).
You can remove it by clearing the app's data in your device settings or by uninstalling the app.
Information we collect and why
Anonymous app identifier
When the app first connects to the internet, Firebase Authentication gives it a random anonymous identifier. It does not contain your name or email address. We use it so that question reports and backups can be linked to the right install, and to protect our services from abuse.
Backup (only if you sign in with Google)
Signing in with Google is optional. If you do, we receive your Google account's name, email address and a user ID from Google, and we store a backup of your study progress: your answers and review schedule, mock test scores, daily study totals, streaks, test date, daily goal and reminder time. The backup is stored in Google Cloud Firestore in London (europe-west2) and is used only to restore your progress on your devices.
Question reports
If you report a problem with a question, we receive the question's ID, the reason you chose, any comment you type, the app and content version, the date and your anonymous identifier. We use reports only to correct the questions. Please do not include personal information in your comment.
Subscriptions
Pro is sold through Google Play. Google handles payment, and we never see your card details. To check whether you have Pro, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription management service, which receives an anonymous app user ID, your purchase receipt and subscription status (product, start, renewal and expiry dates) from Google Play.
Usage analytics
Firebase Analytics collects information about how the app is used, such as screens opened, sessions finished, mock test scores, and paywall views and purchases, along with device type, operating system, app version, approximate location (country or region, estimated from your IP address) and an app instance identifier. We use this in aggregate to improve the app. It does not include your name or email address.
Crash reports
Firebase Crashlytics collects crash and error reports, which include the device model, operating system version, app version, a crash trace and an installation identifier. We use them only to find and fix problems.
App integrity
Firebase App Check and Google Play Integrity check that requests come from a genuine copy of the app on a genuine device. This helps prevent abuse of our backup and report services.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version shows banner ads and, occasionally, full-screen ads between activities, provided by Google AdMob. Ads are never shown during questions or timed mock tests, and Pro subscribers see no ads. To show ads, measure their performance and prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK in the app collects and sends the following to Google:
- Device identifiers, such as your device's advertising ID and app set ID
- Approximate location, estimated from your device's IP address
- App interactions, such as app launches and taps on ads
- Diagnostic information, such as app performance data
If you are in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent form before any ad is requested, and you can choose whether ads may be personalised. You can change your choice at any time from Settings › Ad privacy choices. This data is collected and processed by Google under Google's Privacy Policy. You can read more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Your choices about ads
- Use Settings › Ad privacy choices in the app to change your consent.
- Reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your device settings (on most devices: Settings › Privacy › Ads, or Settings › Google › Ads).
- Manage ad personalisation for your Google account at adssettings.google.com.
- Subscribe to Pro to remove ads.
Legal bases (UK and EU users)
Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR, we rely on:
- Contract: to provide backup when you sign in, and to provide Pro when you subscribe.
- Legitimate interests: to keep the app secure, fix crashes, correct reported questions and understand how the app is used so we can improve it. We have balanced these interests against your rights, and the data is limited and not used to identify you.
- Consent: for personalised advertising, through Google's consent form. You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings › Ad privacy choices.
- Legal obligation: to keep purchase records where tax law requires it.
Who we share information with
We use these service providers, which process information on our behalf or, for advertising, as independent controllers:
- Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited: Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config, App Check), Google Play billing and Google AdMob.
- RevenueCat, Inc. (USA): subscription status. See the RevenueCat privacy policy.
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.
International transfers
We are based in Sri Lanka, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Backups are stored in London. Where information about UK or EU users is transferred outside the UK or EU, our providers use safeguards recognised by UK and EU law, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep information
- Backup and Google sign-in details: until you delete them in the app or ask us to delete them.
- Anonymous identifier: until you delete your data in the app or ask us to delete it.
- Question reports: until the question has been reviewed, and no longer than 24 months.
- Analytics: event-level data is kept for 2 months; after that, only aggregated reports remain.
- Crash reports: 90 days.
- Subscription records: for as long as needed to provide Pro and to meet tax and accounting obligations.
Deleting your data
Open the app and go to Settings › Delete my data. This deletes your backup and your Firebase account straight away, and resets the progress stored on your device. If you no longer have the app, see how to delete your account and data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR and Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022, you may have the right to access the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, receive a copy in a portable format, and withdraw consent. To use these rights, email us at the address below. We will reply within one month.
If you are in the UK and are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. If you are in the EU, you can complain to your local data protection authority. In Sri Lanka, you can contact the Data Protection Authority of Sri Lanka.
Permissions
- Internet access, for backup, reports, subscriptions, analytics and ads. Studying works without a connection.
- Notifications, for the daily study reminder you choose. You can turn reminders off in the app or in your device settings.
The read-aloud feature uses your device's built-in text-to-speech. Nothing you hear is sent to us.
Security
Information sent between the app and our services is encrypted in transit. Access to backups is restricted so that only your own signed-in account can read or change your backup.
Google Play
The app is distributed through Google Play. Google may collect information when you download or update the app, as described in Google's Privacy Policy.
Contacting us
If you email us, we will receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use this only to reply to you, and we do not share it with anyone else. You can ask us to delete your emails at any time.
Children's privacy
The app is intended for adults preparing for the Life in the UK Test. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
